I’m not your typical Black Friday blogger!I’m just saying that from the start. This post will be more simplified than many you will read. Yes, there are some amazing deals, and this truly is a time for retailers to capitalize. We want to feed the economy. We want to help small businesses. We want to get a good start on our gift buying. I read other blogs and it honestly makes my head spin a little when reading about all the options. There is so much!(I couldn’t even tackle Amazon yet!)
I liked it when Black Friday started on that day. Remember that? First they added Thursday with many stores opening later on Thanksgiving Day. Now we start hearing about it all at least two weeks ahead of time!
I never was a true Black Friday shopper. I had no desire to get up early on a day I could sleep in. Despite my love to shop, this was not one of the days I capitalized on. Now I can imagine online sales statistics have dramatically increased. Sitting with my laptop in the comfort of my own home is a lot more fun than fighting cold rain and crowds!
So how do I shop on Black Friday and Cyber Monday?
- First I make my gift list and check out if any of the promos fit the things on my list.
- Next I think about things on my shopping list whether it be clothing, household items or things I’ve wanted to buy that seem “too high priced” regular times of the year. (this year it’s a Vacuum Cleaner and a cashmere scarf!)
- Then I look at my favorite retailers and brand names. It’s easy to get caught up in a good deal so I want to make sure I shop smart.
What is the better day to shop? I still think it’s Black Friday but every so often there is a fun Cyber Monday deal. And as much as I love my Smart Phone, I really think you make way better decisions on a desk top or lap top. The images are more clear, and it will help avoid shopping mistakes. The sites are way easier to navigate and many sites are created for better optimization on larger devices. And don’t forget those promo codes most sites use for deeper discounts!
My Favorite Retailers and their Cyber Offers:
I scanned the sites for the deepest discounts. I looked at availability (as of Wednesday night) current trends I’ve been sharing, holiday dressing and then I threw in some items that make great gifts. The widget has a huge variety beyond what is listed here.
J CREW never disappoints with their offers. Do I need another wool coat in a fun color? Probably not, but I’m going to look. NORDSTROM| Years ago they were never a Black Friday retailer. When I worked there they started, and this year they started a couple of weeks ago. Use the Black Friday link to pull up the sales. New deals will be added daily. I clicked on new markdowns to create my choices for the widget. There are pages of choices!
EVEREVE| They are just doing a 10% discount but they have some great holiday tops and lots of availability!

LOFT| is a favorite of many and they have a really good markdowns this year.
COLUMBIA| After my whole series on outerwear, I couldn’t believe I didn’t include this brand in the widget. There are some great coats marked down this weekend (not in the widget)
