What’s Your Seasonal Wardrobe Plan?

Spring is on the way! It made an appearance this weekend here in the Portland area. But… the rain will be back. We will vacillate between rain and occasional sunny days between now and June or July when summer will officially arrive. If you live in colder parts of the country, you are still in sweaters. It may be hard to think about your wardrobe plan. When you have a smaller closet like I did for years, you have to do the “closet switch” before you can really evaluate what you have.

This weekend I made this short video to promote my stylist services.

You will see from the video that this process is about so much more than purging your closet. (I will also add here I think that some women can “over purge” and give away things that could be given new life or a new combination.)

Before you can make a good plan, you must lay the groundwork. This sets the tone for anything you do going forward. I call this your STYLE PROFILE.

1. I help you analyze what you wear on a day -to- day basis and establish what you typically need clothes for given your present lifestyle. We dig into why you are drawn to certain things and not others. Your “Style profile” defines and characterizes your specific personality traits unique to you which can greatly influence why you love some things and really dislike others.

2. Organization is key to seeing what you have. When you see it, you will WEAR it! I show you how to make the best use of your space no matter how small or large it is.

3. What are your fit challenges?

These are just a FEW of the things we cover in the PROFILE piece of the appointment. Each component in the profile is key to developing your plan which will help you shop with a purpose and eliminate many mistakes.

My clients enjoy shopping with me a few times a year or for a special occasion. Others may want to come more often and space it out. When we do a seasonal update, I will always ask. What is your shopping plan?

When all things are running smoothly in a well thought out and organized closet, each season you can easily create your plan. If clothes are nicely organized by category, and then color, you can see at a glance if there is redundancy or gaps. We lead busy lives; we can’t always take a day to do this. Thus, a written out plan helps you do it a little at a time.

Here is the start of my WARDROBE PLAN for the new season. I will inevitably tweak it a little as we proceed through the next months and as things come up.

1. Evaluate spring jackets for style and fit. Do I have something to coordinate with each? Am I tired of it? Showing wear?

2. Move winter weights into cloth garment bags. (Decide on any dry cleaning )

3. Try on spring pants for style/fit

4. Tops— solids, prints–good balance?

5. Set monthly or quarterly budget for new pieces

6. Look at Cabi catalog for ideas (shopping Cabi on Monday)

7. Go through shoes and purge 3-4 pairs. (Late April) Store winter shoes

There will be more things added of course, but this gives you a small taste of what I’m talking about. Do you see the benefits of putting some thought into a seasonal plan? Contact me if you would like me to help with your STYLE PROFILE.
