Summer Fashion: How to Choose Hats & Sunglasses

by | Jun 19, 2018 | Accessories, Fashion trends | 2 comments

Last week I shared many ideas for sunglasses and really took you through the process of choosing the right pair. The sunglasses market is huge, with hundreds of options.

I did want to highlight Maui Jim. My husband is a huge fan, and I have other friends who swear by them as well. Yet, I’ve never had a pair. These characteristics stand out when I asked to pin point their features: lightweight, comfortable, lenses reduce eyestrain, warranty and repair option. Site is linked above to give you lots of info on the brand.

Use the option “find a retailer”. Many optometrist offices carry the line as well as the big retailers. I’ll be anxious to read your comments if you are a Maui Jim fan. Remember when you make a comment at the end of the post, it helps other readers. Thank you!

If you are puzzled over polarization, I thought this article was helpful.

HATS

I’ve always worn some type of hat when I’m sitting out in the sun, but honestly never consider a hat to be part of my outfit. I always admire them on others, and think they look so fashionable. However, hats and my hair style can be a little challenging. I think everyone with long hair looks so much better in a hat!

I decided to put my theory to the test and recently when I was in Dallas, my sister Marge, her friend Suzanne and I went to Nordstrom for a try-on session.

Here we are feeling a little like celebrities in disguise.

Hats and Sunglasses

Most of the hats were were trying on that day were from Eric Javits Many styles are packable, but would definitely be a splurge in my book. We were just having fun that day trying on anything. There are many price points on the Nordstrom site.

Sunday Afternoon is a great source for affordable and packable hats. I like the great photos, details and reviews on the site. So many good choices here! The next time I take a tropical vacation I’m ordering from here.

My sister informed me that part of my problem with hats was that I’m not placing them on my heard correctly. I should pull the front/center down, and not have it sit upright on my head. It’s a bit harder for with my bangs, but I’m working on it!

Ok so I think I’d wear this hat on a summer day as part of my outfit, and not just at the pool. I was just messing around with a selfie, but I can envision it with the right dress or casual skirt. I’ll work on putting something together in a future post. This hat is from Stella and Dot. (Link in photo)

Over to you. Do you wear hats at the beach or pool only? Or will you try wearing one as part of an outfit?
