How to Pack Jewelry, Cosmetics and Toiletries

I started out researching the Perfect Carry On. Then moved into finding the all encompassing Personal Item. I wanted to finish with some options for all other toiletries.

This VIDEO shows you details photos can’t capture.

The goal of this series was to present a way to get all your things in a carry-on suitcase to fit in the overhead bin and a personal item to fit under the seat. I fly Southwest or Alaska and I don’t have to pay for checked luggage. There are times when this comes in handy if you don’t have time to do a lot of careful planning/laying out or you don’t have all the right size containers for liquids. I think that checking my bags can lead me to overpacking. It’s easy just to throw in one more thing–just in case.

When it comes to timing your arrival with friends or family members waiting or circling the concourse, not waiting for luggage is a nice advantage. I wanted to perfect my carry on system. I flew 7 times this past year and received TSA pre-check many of those trips. Oh it’s a beautiful thing not to have to remove your liquids and electronic devices! Yet, I have to be prepared for the times I don’t get this bonus.

If you travel by car, this process will even be easier.

The Stella & Dot Poufs

These are one of the most handy packing tools and I’ve used them for years. You can pack so much in one! I like to divide into categories. I have one for:

–Toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant.

–Chargers, headphones etc.

(Any liquids can be separated into a ziplock and put on top for quick removal if needed.)

Other suggestions: Make-up palettes, brushes, lip products, First aid items, skincare, medicine, baby items in a diaper bag–just about ANYTHING!

–I always have one in my larger everyday handbag for cosmetics and miscellaneous items.

Jewelry & Make-up Organization:

I’m famous for overpacking jewelry. This smaller jewelry box helps me pare down my choices. You only need a few versatile pieces that can go with everything.

The Hang-on Organizer could be used for cosmetics, jewelry or look at this photo with all the large sizes of EVER skincare.  This photo really shows the capacity.

Another make-up organizer idea is the Trish McEvoy Planner. Mine is from two years ago and looks a little larger. I really like how all my things fit in one place and are easy to see.

The Train Case

I showed it with Hair products and tools.

Options:

  1. Makeup, jewelry, skincare and pouf with tooth brush etc. Shoes in Crush-it bag and another envelope for more clothes.

2. All of the above AND the traincase.

3. All the toiletries and make-up, three pairs of shoes.

I’m all set for my next trip with carry-on and personal item!

And last, if the Crush-It Bag is a little more space than you need or you are worried it may get too heavy. Consider the Back Pack or Work Hard, Play Hard Tote as your Personal Item. Here is the link to the Amazon back pack I loved for my Europe trip that I mentioned in the video.
