2019 Fall Trends: Patterns and Prints

The official first day of fall hits this week. Whether true fall weather has hit your area or if you’re still having warm weather, it gets to be this time of year when you’re tired of the current season and need a change. The weather in the PNW started to turn last weekend when it rained. It truly felt like fall. Then a few days later it was over 80 degrees and felt like summer.

September is a transition month. I look for darker colors in my closet and add light weight jackets or sweaters. My choices may even resemble what I wore in the cooler spring months. I like to wear white denim in September with darker colors. I think it’s a great way to transition into November. My post White Denim All Year certainly gives ideas for that weather permitting.

Every year I get asked about the new trends for the season. I’ve noticed the last few years that there are not dramatic changes. We see glimpses and then it builds every year. High waisted pants are an example. It started making it’s way in a couple seasons ago with denim, and now it’s in full force. (I’ll cover this in a future post )

TREND #1 Patterns and Prints Last year I really emphasized animal prints–leopard print in particular. There is still lots of leopard out there! The Anniversary Sale clued us in that snakeskin was going to be popular this year. Like I said with leopard print, small doses go a long way and allow you to add a trend without feeling draped in it.

  1. Shoes are an obvious choice.
  2. Top/camisole paired with a blazer is another way.
  3. Accessories: belt/scarf/handbag

Here are some great ideas from various sources. And I like the idea of a top versus a jacket. The shades of gray and taupe found in many snakeskin prints appeal to women who love neutrals more than colors. It is a subtle way to add interest with a pattern.

This NYDJ top show promise although I haven’t seen in person.

I have really noticed Naturalizer lately. I like the style, comfort and price point. They have some great snakeskin options. I did a similar search with Zappos.

There are so many great prints and patterns. Plaids are big, a few florals here and there. I’m anxious to show you more in the upcoming posts.

So what do you think? Will Snakeskin enter your wardrobe this fall?
